An appealing and easy rice recipe to make in the morning rush hour for  lunch box , this rice suits prefectly for both adults and kids. Purple cabbage rice is loaded with disease fighting antioxidants and a great fresh taste. A collective blend of awesome textures (with the garlic,soy sauce,chili) and its fasinating purple colour ,this aromatic rice is sure to attract definitely everyones attention..


Red cabbage is a powerhouse of vitamin content- with significant amounts of vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin B6 and folate.The deeper pigmentation in purple cabbage indicates a richer supply of anthocyanins, which can help lower your risk of cancer, heart disease, macular degeneration and many other diseases.

Purple cabbage has a low caloric density compared to other foods. Raw red cabbage is a favorite vegetable among dieters since it contains a negligible amount of total fat, no cholesterol or saturated fat and provides only 25 calories for every 1.5-cup serving.

  • 2 cup rice, boiled with 1tsp oil
  • 1 full cup purple cabbage
  • 1 full cup white cabbage
  • 1 onion, minced
  • 1 full head of garlic, minced
  • 1 tiny piece of ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp  vinegar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • salt and pepper powder to taste
  • 2 green chilies


In a wok, heat olive oil. Stir fry the minced ginger, garlic and onions, preferably on high, stir frying all the time. Keep the chopped cabbage ready. Once the onions turn translucent, throw in the cabbage along with finely chopped green chilies. Stir fry and saute till  done. (Try to keep the cabbage a wee bit crunchy).

Add vinegar, soy sauce, pepper,salt and rice. Mix well. Let cook for a minute more.

Serve hot.


  • Though 1 full garlic is used, if its properly fried and added it tastes great. Adjust according to your preferences.
  • Using both types – purple and white cabbage is preferred to balance the flavours. But you can even make it with just purple cabbage.
  • Since cabbage can interfere with the uptake of iodine, those with goiter conditions should consult their physician before eating cabbage.
    Although consumption of cabbage may aggravate a pre-existing thyroid condition, it is generally not the initiating factor of such a condition.
