BULGAR WHEAT BURGER

Healthy as well as tasty, burgers need not be nessasarily be loaded with cheese and unknown, unhealthy ingredients. Homemade, vegetarian, easy and tasty using bulgar wheat. This burger ……which is filled with low fat protien as well as low in fat but high in fibre, is sure a healthier version, if you could even omit the mayo.

Makes 8 burger patties

INGREDIENTS:-

  • oil for cooking
  • 1&1/2 cup – bulgar wheat
  • 1large potato
  • 4 green chillies
  • handful of fresh coriander
  • salt to taste
  • fresh black pepper
  • 1 cup bread crumbs

For making burgers

  • 6 brown burger buns
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 large tomato
  • 12 lettuce leaves
  • 6 tsp – light mayo

METHOD:-

Boil the potato with skin and let it cool. Boil and drain the bulgar wheat. keep aside. Grate the potato after its cooled, for uniform mixing. Slice the green chillies finely. Add and adjust the sesonings. Add a handful of chopped fresh coriander leaves. Mix everything in a bowl, till they are uniformly combined. Divide and shape into rounds, then flatten into patties. Coat with breadcrumbs on both sides. Heat a non stick pan and cook each pattie with 1/2 tsp olive oil untill golden browned on both sides.

For making the burgers, cut each burger bun horizantally and toast them lightly. Spread tomato ketchup and mayo on each half of the burger. Place two lettuce leaves, burger pattie , an onion ring and sliced tomato, on one half and close with the other half and press lightly, or insert a toothpick. Repeat with the remaining 5 more buns.
