BEETROOT SHERBET

Sharbat or Sherbet (Arabic: شربات Sharbat; Persian/Punjabi/Urdu: شربت Sharbat; Hindi: शर्बत; Turkish: Şerbet; Azerbaijani:Şərbət) is a popular West and South Asian drink that is prepared from fruits or flower petals.[1] It is sweet and served chilled. It can be served in concentrate form and eaten with a spoon or diluted with water to create the drink.Popular sharbats are made of one or more of the following: Rose, Sandalwood, Bael, Gurhal (Hibiscus), Lemon, Orange, Mango, Pineapple, Falsa (Grewia asiatica).Most of the sharbats are very common in Indian, Turkish, Arab, Iranian, Afghan, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi homes. These are claimed to have several medicinal values and to be ayurvedic in nature.

At one time i used to dislike beets. But now iam trying out new recipies with this healthy veg. I have read that one full glass of beet juice can lower high blood pressure by 10mmHg, that too within few hours with lingering effects the next day. Whereas refraining from salt intake helps to reduce high blood pressure by about 5mmHg only. Drinking beetroot juice could help the elderly lead more active lives.Beetroot juice widens blood vessels and reduces the amount of oxygen needed by muscles during activity.

serves 6    making time – 10 mnts

Ingredients :-

  • Sugar 1 cup

  • Water 1 cup

  • 1/2 medium fresh beet grated/ finely chopped

  • Orange juice 1/3 cup

  • Lemon juice 1/4 cup

METHOD:-

Add sugar, water and beet in a saucepan, stir till boiling. Boil 5 minutes and then cool it down. Blend the mixture. Add orange juice and lemon juice to the sugar syrup and mix them well. Strain the infusion and leave to cool in the refregirator.Add water, ice cubes and lemon or orange rings to serve.

This is just a three ingredient yummy lassi , well if you count water,its four.

Indian culture is synoyous with milk and lassi. We have all grown up on milk and lassi. We remember elders asking us not to have tea.Lassi was once the preserve of India’s Maharajas. It is mentioned in ancient Indian texts and was widely used in Hindu rituals. In old times, people would have lassi because they wouldn’t get hungry quickly afterward; and they could wait until lunch to eat again. Tart and refreshing, lassi serves to cleanse the palate alongside spicier foods. It aids digestion and is a healthy addition to any balanced diet. Lassi is 100 per cent natural and is free from artificial colourings, preservatives and flavourings. Besides offering health benefits, lassi is also indulgent and can be enjoyed with or between meals.Even till date despite the popularity of tea if you tell some one that you do not take tea you are praised for that. Lassi on the other hand is a traditional Indian drink that is considered as good for health and panacea for many diseases.Lassi is the staple diet in many villages and is taken three times a day to maintain good health and keep fit. It has low fat content and is rich in nutritional value

Ingredients:-

  • 1 cup or 1/2 medium beet chopped
  •  1 cup yogurt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water

 Put everything into a blender, blend, and serve! Enjoy.
