Fish head curry is a popular delicacy of south india. It became a popular dish in Malaysia and Singapore around the second half of the 20th century. With South Indian origins, the various ethnic groups of the Malay Peninsula have added their own accents to the dish, and recipes vary from place to place……this is how my mom makes it.

Ingredients :-

  • # Fish heads 4 ,large or medium (Washed and drained)
  • # Cumin seeds 1 tbsp
  • # Chili powder 1 tsp
  • # Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • # Coriander powder 3 tsp
  • # Red chili powder 1tsp
  • # Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  • # Fenugreek seeds 1 tsp
  • # Ginger 3 inch (chopped)
  • # Garlic cloves 5 (chopped)
  • # Onion 1
  • # Cinnamon 2 inch
  • # Tomato 2
  • # Salt
  • # oil – 2tsp

Heat a pan and add 1/2 tsp cumin seeds, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, ginger, garlic, cinnamon stick, curry leaves, roast until the aroma comes out. Grind the fried ingredients with little water into paste and keep aside.

Heat the pan with oil and add chopped onion and fry until it gets golden brown. Add cumin powder, chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and fry until the aroma comes out and add ground paste.Now add finely chopped tomatoes and cook.

Let it simmer and add salt and cleaned fish head. cook in the medium heat until the fish is cooked well. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

Serve hot with rice.



Fish and other sea foods are a boon to human beings. Eating fish once or twice a week may reduce the risk of diseases ranging from childhood asthma to prostate cancer.Fish is low in fat ,high in protein and good source of omega 3 fatty acids .Fish is a package of vitamins and minerals.
It lowers the blood pressure, contains satisfactory level of magnesium ,phosphorus ,iron and copper .
Person who didn’t eat fish had between double and triple risk of developing prostate cancer.
Omega -3 fatty acids helps for formation of brain tissue and retina . People who regularly eat fish are less likely to suffer from depression.
