Well, mostly every indian  knows how to make daal. and daal palak is similar to it.  Just we add green leafs to it. It could be palak (spinach), methi (fenugreek) or daal bhaaji. (I dont know what daal bhaaji is called in english , if any of you does do leave me a comment. Its know as regella in saudi and pappu aaku in telugu). This is mostly how it is made at my mom & in-laws home.

serves : 6                   cooking time :25 minutes
Ingredients

  • palak – 2 bunches
  • tuvar ki daal ( pigeon peas)- 1 cup full
  • Tomatoes – 4 large
  • tamarind – 1 tsp
  • green chillies 10/12Turmeric- 1/2 tsp
  • sambar powder – 1tsp(optional)

Tempering;

  • mustard 1 tsp
  • small onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • few curry leaves

METHOD:-

Wash the spinach and dal separetly. In a pressure cooker add spinach, daal, cut green chillies,tamariind, cut tomatoes ,turmeric and 1 cup water. Let it give 7 or 8 whistles . After the pressure is down with a masher, mash this all smoothly or with a big wodden laddle. In a pan heat 2 tsp of sunflower oil and add the tempering. After the onion and garlic( finely cut ) are browned add the cooked spinach and add one more cup of water and salt.
Now add 1 tsp sambar powder, it gives more flavour. After 5 mnts switch off the flame.
Serve with rice and some veg poriyal or chicken 65
